The Vision Wide XM Series is the top of the range in Vision Wide’s line-up — an extremely mighty moving column machining centre built for the heaviest, largest, and most demanding structural machining applications on the planet. With X-axis travel starting at 8,200 mm and extendable up to 60,200 mm, the XM Series is engineered for precision machining of enormous structural parts used in electric power generation, wind energy, oil and gas, petrochemical processing, transportation infrastructure, and heavy industrial equipment. When the workpiece is too large to move — the column moves instead.

Feature Summary

The XM Series occupies an entirely different market tier to Vision Wide’s table-moving double column machines. Where the SF, SM, NF, and FA Series move the workpiece during cutting, the XM Series moves the column. This moving column configuration is necessary when the workpiece is simply too large, too heavy, or too long to be placed on a table and moved. The table — which can extend from 8 to 60 metres in length — stays fixed to the floor, and the machine travels across the work.

Moving Column Architecture
In a moving column machining centre, the column travels longitudinally along precision guideways mounted to a fixed floor-mounted bed. The Y-axis moves the beam vertically, and the Z-axis moves the spindle head in and out from the beam. This configuration provides access to extremely long workpieces — rail wagons, ship sections, wind turbine nacelles, large machine frames, and pressure vessels — that cannot be accommodated by any conventional table-moving machine.
The XM Series provides huge workpiece machining space with high-standard geometric accuracy across the entire travel. Positioning accuracy and repeatability are maintained over the full travel length through precision linear scale feedback on X and Z axes as standard, with Y-axis linear scale available as an option.
Heavy Cutting Capacity
The 4,000 rpm 2-step gear type spindle provides high torque output suited to heavy milling passes in steel, cast iron, and large alloy structural components. Optional built-in motor spindles at 8,000 and 12,000 rpm expand the cutting range into higher-speed applications. Spindle motor power is rated at 22/26 kW continuous/30-minute, and the ram measures 470 x 460 mm — a robust, rigid structure that supports heavy cutting forces without deflection.
The table load capacity is rated at 5,000 kg/m² — designed to support the enormous workpieces that the XM Series is built to machine.
Multi-Face Machining with Attachment Heads
To achieve fully automatic multi-face machining on large structural components, the XM Series is compatible with a comprehensive range of automatic attachment heads. These heads support high tangential speed mould surface machining, complex-angle machining of precision parts, and include an automatic tool tip point error correction function. Automatic head and tool exchange eliminates the need for manual intervention during multi-face operations. A multi-heads magazine can be added to support longer, more complex machining sequences without operator input.
One Machine — Extreme Scale
A key advantage of the moving column platform is that a single XM machine can do the work of what would otherwise require multiple setups, multiple machines, or costly repositioning of enormous workpieces. The ability to machine large structural parts in one setup reduces errors, reduces cycle time, and reduces handling risk on components that may weigh tens of tonnes.
Vision Wide has a demonstrated track record in this class of machine. One customer in Taiwan operates an XM configuration at 60 metres of X-axis travel — Vision Wide manufactures the machine in sections and assembles the complete machine at the customer’s facility.
CNC TalkBox Remote Monitoring
Like all Vision Wide machines supplied through QMT, the XM Series is compatible with Vision Wide’s TalkBox remote monitoring software as standard — providing near-instantaneous remote diagnostic support without the need for an on-site technician.

The XM Series suits electric power generation equipment, wind turbine components, oil and gas processing vessels and frames, petrochemical plant structures, rail and transportation vehicle components, shipbuilding sections, large industrial machine frames, heavy construction equipment, and any application where workpiece length, weight, or scale exceeds the capability of conventional machining centres.
