Horizontal Machining Centre

The MCH Series are horizontal machining centres designed for high-productivity production across automotive, aerospace, defence, and general engineering applications. With the spindle oriented horizontally, these machines deliver superior chip evacuation, natural multi-face access, and the structural rigidity needed for demanding material removal. Spanning from the compact MCH-400 through to the heavy-duty MCH-800 with 2,000 kg table capacity, the MCH Series covers a broad range of component sizes and production requirements.

Feature Summary

The MCH Series brings horizontal machining capability to production shops that need higher throughput, better multi-face access, and the natural chip evacuation that horizontal spindle machines deliver. Built by AMS — part of the Ace Micromatic Group — these machines have been developed over more than a decade of design evolution to suit the most demanding production applications.

Machine Configuration
The MCH Series uses a table-moving configuration, with the X and Z axes provided to the table and the spindle moving in the Y axis alone. This design provides a stable, rigid cutting platform with a compact machine envelope. The MCH-400XL comes in its standard form with an index table for four-face machining, with the automatic pallet changer available as an option on this model.
High-Speed Spindles
AMS Gemini HMC spindles feature quadruplex back-to-back angular contact bearing arrangements, optimally preloaded and grease lubricated. All spindles are dynamically balanced to perform better under high-speed and continuous duty cutting conditions. BT-40 is standard on MCH-400XL and MCH-500L, with BT-50 standard on MCH-500L-50, MCH-630, and MCH-800. HSK tooling interfaces are available as options across the range.
For larger models, gear box spindle drives provide the high torque needed for heavy-duty BT-50 cutting at full spindle power — with spindle power reaching 26/22 kW on MCH-630 and 30/22 kW on the MCH-800.
Automatic Pallet Changer
The Automatic Pallet Changer is fast and accurate, using a hydraulically actuated Rotary Indexing system. It efficiently reduces setup change time to deliver productivity in the true sense — machining runs continuously on one pallet while the other is prepared outside the cutting zone. This feature is standard on all larger MCH models and is a key productivity driver in automotive and high-volume production environments.
Automatic Tool Changer
The 40-tool chain magazine ATC with twin arm design is standard on the MCH-500L. The 60-tool chain ATC is standard on the MCH-500L-50, MCH-630, and MCH-800. Large tool capacity supports complex components that require many different operations in a single setup, minimising part handling and reducing cycle time.
LM Guideways and Ball Screws
Precision LM guideways and ball screws provide higher rigidity and damping characteristics. They are essential for matching cutting capacity to the maximum power output of the motor and for maintaining precise workpiece geometry at high feed speeds — across all axes and across sustained production runs.
Chip Management
Removing chips is important for both productivity and environmental protection. AMS provides various chip handling systems across the MCH Series. Coil conveyors are standard on MCH-500L-50, MCH-630, and MCH-800. Screw conveyor options are also available for cast iron and steel applications.
Coolant System
Through-spindle coolant increases tool life, allows higher cutting speeds, and clears chips during deep hole drilling. Two systems are available: a Grundfos Pump system at 21 bar and a Wanner Pump system at 50 bar. All models include a large-capacity chip tray — reliable, trouble free, and easy to maintain.
Quality and Inspection
Machine geometric accuracies are fully inspected to assure the highest accuracy standards. A high-precision laser unit is applied for inspecting positioning accuracy and repeatability, and a ball bar tester inspects the geometric error to ensure superior circular accuracy through parameter adjustment. Every machine is subject to heavy cut and NAS testing before shipment.
Tool Management
The MCH Series supports a full range of tool management options including work and tool offset, touch probe, tool setter, and tool breakage detection — enabling unattended operation and process security across high-volume production schedules.
Automation Ready
AMS machines are built for automation interface of different types. With deep experience in providing machining solutions, AMS is capable of augmenting the manufacturing process with semi-automated or fully automated integration — from auto-unloading through to unmanned operation. This provides enhanced productivity, output consistency, and reduced dependency on labour.
Application
The MCH Series suits automotive, aerospace, defence, and general engineering applications where multi-face machining, high metal removal rates, and tight geometric tolerances are required in a production environment.
